Many corporate videos look polished but nobody finishes them. The difference is almost always in the planning. Here is how we plan a video people actually watch.
1. Decide the one thing to remember
What should viewers remember after watching? One message, not ten. Everything in the video should support it.
2. Know who is watching
A video for investors is different from a video for job seekers or customers. Picture one person and make the video for them.
3. Write a simple script
Short sentences. Real words. Read it out loud — if it sounds like a brochure, rewrite it.
4. Show, don't just tell
Film your people at work, your products in use and your customers. Interviews are powerful when they are honest and short.
5. Plan the shoot day
A shot list, locations, permissions, timing and good sound. Bad audio ruins good pictures, so we always plan sound carefully.
6. Plan where it will be shown
Website, LinkedIn, events, sales meetings? Each needs a different length and format. Plan short cut-downs for social media from the start.
From our work
We produced "The Spirit of Ross", a documentary for the Indian Navy, and product videos for Kone Elevators and Jio Glass. Each started with a clear message and audience.
